Relay to Relay Radio: Wave 9

In this week's episode, we finally tackle the Extended Cut DLC! It's been a long time coming, but we sat down and verbalized our feels for you. We even go as far as to discuss what BioWare may come up with NEXT, if there is another Mass Effect game!

No Galactic Action News 6 or Javik this time, but stay tuned next wave as we talk about the Earth DLC and answer our pile of your lovely questions!

Shout out to @RobTheSentinel, who said hello to Stephanie at SDCC! You're awesome.

Enough with the chit chat! Onto the Mass Effect!

  1. Wave 9! Yes! :D

I would have totally said hi to Steph or Denise if I'd saw them at Comic Con, but I had no badge so... we probably hanged out at different places.

I'm not ready to discuss who is my favorite Doctor, because I've only seen season 1 yet

Platinum is Insane. I played it a lot at Bioware Base in Comic Con, and the higher I got was Wave 5 ( that time we could have gotten higher, but the game glitched on us :( ). But full extraction IS possible I was there when it happened, this is the proof. It took everything maxed out, everything unlocked and real teamplay. It can be done, but it's HARD. In the higher waves you end up fighting every faction possible at the same time.

I've only unlocked the N7 Slayer for now but I got to play all the classes too (except for the N7 Paladin) there and I love them all, they are so much fun. But the N7 Fury is my favorite, being the fan of Biotic Explosions that I am, I guess it's only normal ^_^'. The N7 Demolisher and the N7 Destroyer are also great because you dont have to worry about weight AT ALL.

I picked Synthesis again. I don't think everyone after Synthesis is the same, there are still cultural diferences and Krogan are still Krogan, and Turians are still dextro-based...

Yup, it does look kinda BSG :)

It was Garrus for me, "Joker, we have to go". It sucks that my love interest is Miranda and she doesn't appear anywhere :(

Oh, question: what's the deal with the Star Child being voiced over by Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale? (I'll send this to gmail too)

My conclusion to Extended Cut: I liked it, it explains so much more, and I <3 Tricia Helfer

    1. Heya Synobis!

Awww, we should have just declared the BioWare base as temporary Team Banana Punch headquarters!

The more I hear about Platinum, the less eager I am to jump in and get my butt handed to me. But I guess it's all part of the experience. :P

We're right there with you about the ME2 love interests. Seems like all those options got the short end of the stick. I almost wish Bioware had warned players that their LI's were going to take a back seat in ME3 and to choose their partners veeeery carefully.

Glad you liked the extended cut! I think we're all in agreement here that it was a positive experience and really smoothed over a lot of the issues we had with the original ending. It's still something of an awkward band aid simply because of how it came to be, but we're glad we have it.

      Thanks for listening!

  2. Glad to hear that you guys were happy with the extended cut. I agree, they did a great job improving ALL of the endings, and the addition of the 'reject' ending was a nice touch as well.

On the whole I'm on board with Nate, control ending fo-evah. I sort of felt like Bioware pushed control towards the creepy side, there are some pretty sinister undertones there. BUT, we're the ones who get to decide what happens after everything Bioware presented, and I say my Shepard is totally benevolent after becoming the Reaper-God. That said, I do also totally understand why someone would choose ANY of the endings, and I think they all have some good narrative qualities to them.

Thanks again for the shout out =) Steph it was a pleasure meeting you! Lookin forward to the next wave, hoping that I can unlock some of the stuff from the Earth DLC soon so that I have some opinions on the content when you guys talk about it. Keep it up guys, cheers!

    1. Hey again Rob!

Yeeeeah I'm with you on the "dial blue for creepy control" thing. After hearing Shep's monologue for that ending, I was convinced that it just wasn't for me. But the extended cut fleshed out each ending so much that I was able to understand the appeal of all of them.

Thanks for listening and for being a great sport!

  3. Back from the dead!

Nate, congrats on the house purchase. Welcome to the wonderful world of house-poor! And thanks for the invite, I’ll be sure to visit next time I find myself in the mid-west for any reason whatsoever. Jk, invite’s probably for you banana-punch folk anyway!

So how’s the Earth DLC? Good! New levels are pretty. Can’t say much more about them than that, really. The new classes seem a trifle OPed to me but that’s okay ‘cause now I have an N7 Fury and she is awesome and amazing and can’t stop throwing shite around! Though, I’m just biased toward adepts in general so it was a good first catch for me.

Platinum is… tricky. Remember how last time I was talking about how you guys should consider your class selection a bit more carefully? That’s required now. As well as level selection. When I did it, the guy in my party had a real good idea that kinda worked. We went to Firebase: Cerberus-one-that’s-indoors-and-super-close-quarters-in-a-lab and hung out in that room in the middle with one entrance. From there’s our phoenix used his Smash though the walls, I used my shockwave and Wraith shotgun, and our asari justicar had a warp bubble set up at the entrance. We just spammed the entire time, had moments of panic, but it turned out well. Until the objectives happened. Then it all fell apart. Still, got to wave 6 and finished the objective and got oodles of cash! VICTORY!

As for new ending DLC, I loved it! I’m super jealous of my sister who had it during her first playthrough. Surprised how much green is emphasized though, even though I chose it again. But, hey, that’s officially my ending. I haven’t watched the other endings ‘cause I plan doing them for my other characters (refusal sounds good for one of them in particular) but my Shepard’s story is over. Oddly enough, the problem that lots of people have with the green ending (making a choice for everyone) doesn’t really bother me. I mean, by making it to the citadel, you’re kind of the representative of organic life. You represent that pinnacle and, let’s face it, you’ve made major decisions for everyone else in the past (genophage, council, geth/quarian). By that point, you’ve earned the right to make a choice for all life. Besides, not choosing is still a choice so ha!

    1. Side note: Normandy hanging out next to Harbinger was a little weird but I feel like a precident had been set at the beginning of the game. When the destroyer shoots down those shuttles, I was thinking “why didn’t it shoot us?”. With the addition of then end, I’m just gonna have to assume that Reaper optics are based around heat so the cloaking works.

So what do you guys want from the single player DLC? I want the only thing I feel like I’m still missing: Jack Romance. Or, at least, a storyline/mission set that gives it more closure than long-distance-awkwardness.

One last thing: will wave 10 be your last? I feel like you guys are petering out a bit and that’s okay, you’ve covered quite a bit. If so, thanks for all the laughs and shared enthusiasm, I really appreciate being able to share this experience with a group of people, even if it’s relatively indirectly. Oh, and try to squeeze in and Extraction podcast!

      Cheers,
      Keil Hal

yeah, that was a mess lol. Moreso when the ammount of enemies on screen made me lag like crazy and could barely react to all the bosses around killing us ^_^'

    3. Lol, I totally forgot that was you with me! That bubble of yours kept us going for a while, regardless of the lag!

    4. Hi Keil!

Thanks for your beautiful comments. We <3 them to death.

We finally got to experience the Earth pack, too... but you'll hear more on that later! I've heard similar things about the N7 classes and have yet to unlock one for myself. Nate seems to be particularly attached to the Shadow.

As far as the Normandy goes, I think that's one of those things they really didn't want to explain or maybe had other reasons for leaving the Reaper pretty quiet. Like maybe it didn't give a flying crap about the Normandy because it was totally pwning Earth. I don't know. There are a pile of logical explanations. All you have to do is pick your favorite.

We're a bit mixed about our opinions of Leviathan, but we'll have more thoughts on that for you guys in the next wave. As far as the lifespan of R2R goes, well... you'll just have to tune in for wave 10 to find out. :P

      Thanks for being awesome!
